Founder

Joel “Monty” Pemberton has been on every side of the table your business sits at. He began at Ernst & Young advising the energy sector across Trinidad & Tobago and London, then crossed over to run companies himself, raising more than US$400 million in equity and debt, taking Trinity Exploration to the London Stock Exchange as the first Trinidadian company ever to list there. Then, he went on to found DeNovo Energy, which he grew into one of the market’s leading producers. A career as CEO, CFO and Board Director across global and regional public and private enterprises has shown him exactly where a business loses clarity, speed and control, as well as the operational process discipline required to mitigate these pain points.

At Blewstream, Monty applies this same relentless process rigor to spot friction early, remove bottlenecks, and forward-engineer organizations for sustainable growth and control.

Together with Nicholas, he champions youth development through multiple national initiatives.

Founder

Nicholas Gomez has spent 35 years inside the disciplines that focus on strong governance and assurance: from financial accounting and reporting, to auditing and risk analysis for multinational clients across the banking, retail, telecoms and manufacturing industries. More than two decades of that was at Ernst & Young, where he served as Country Managing Partner and Regional Assurance Leader. A Fellow of the ACCA, he managed a practice of 15 partners and 300 professionals serving over 500 audit clients across the region. Where Monty’s strength lies in high-tech and operational process, Nicholas knows how to build and run a large professional services organisation that allows specialists to deliver consistently.

Today, Nicholas chairs audit committees for major institutions like Republic Bank and Massy Group while serving on the boards of leading conglomerates such as Unilever and Agostini Limited. For Blewstream’s clients, Nicholas provides institutional-grade financial due diligence, strict governance, and uncompromising reporting rigor, giving CFOs, investors, and boards total confidence in the numbers that drive their strategy.

Our Story

Built by people who have sat on every side of the table

Blewstream was founded in Trinidad and Tobago by Joel 'Monty' Pemberton and Nicholas Gomez: one a CFO, CEO and founder who took the first Trinidadian company to the London Stock Exchange and the other, a former Managing Partner at Ernst & Young.

They had seen the same thing from every seat: finance functions that worked hard but could not get clarity, speed or control. Blewstream is the system they built to give those back, pairing a professional services organisation of more than 450 people with an engineering discipline drawn from a century of world-scale industry at home.

Our model is built on continuity, not just labour arbitrage. Its professionals work as an extension of your office. They are supported by leaders who see themselves as mentors, because people who are developed tend to stay.

That is why Blewstream exists: to enhance economic wellbeing by unleashing human potential. For its professionals, that means global opportunities to do the best work of their careers. For Trinidad and Tobago, it means a future beyond oil and gas. For you, it means a team that is invested in your success.

Trinidad’s Evolution

Trinidad and Tobago has always exported goods that have moved the world: Energy, Culture, Industry. For a country our size, punching above our weight is in our DNA.

The Era of Sweet Gold

Our journey began in the 1780s with "Sweet Gold", when the harrowing Transatlantic Slave Trade and the subsequent Indentureship system brought hundreds of thousands of labourers from Africa, India, China and Europe, creating the world's most diverse plantation society. We didn't simply grow sugar; we redesigned how it was made. Mule-driven mills were replaced with steam-powered, centralised factories, eventually becoming the largest producers in the British Empire. By transforming small estates into advanced production hubs, Trinidadians began their reputation for turning survival into innovation on a global scale.

The Golden Age of Cocoa

Following the sugar depression in the 1830s, our economy was forced to diversify into cocoa. When a mysterious disease wiped out cocoa crops, the local farmers cross-bred the surviving Criollo with a harder Forastero variety to create the Trinitario bean. By 1830, Trinidad and Tobago became the 3rd largest cocoa producer globally, supplying over 20% of the entire global market and positioning it at the centre of the luxury chocolate trade.

Today, this hybrid that was created as a form of resilience has become the gold standard internationally for cocoa.

The Oil Revolution

At the turn of the 20th century, following the industrial revolution, the world shifted to producing petroleum, and so did we. From the first use of rotary drilling in the Caribbean to the discovery of the Soldado field in 1954, we have consistently outpaced our much larger competitors. During WWII, our tiny island made history as the largest oil producer in the British Empire, producing the high-octane fuel that even powered the Royal Air Force to victory. Through building massive refining hubs, our country moved beyond simply extracting oil to becoming a processing centre, cementing its reputation as a global leader in this arena.

Once again, when oil prices fluctuated in the 70s and 80s, Trinidad executed one of the most successful economic pivots to date: the transition to a natural gas-based economy that is now studied worldwide as the "Trinidad Gas Model". By building the Point Lisas Industrial Estate, the country transitioned from solely burning natural gas for power to using it to create high-value petrochemicals, eventually becoming the world's largest net exporter of ammonia and one of its largest producers of methanol. Today, the nation's reputation for producing more energy per capita than almost any other country remains intact, achieved by a local workforce that now uses this experience to export engineering and consulting expertise on emerging energy frontiers.

The Global Export of Intellectual Capital

Today, Blewstream carries the torch of ingenuity to light a new path. We recognise that our country's greatest legacy isn't what lies beneath our feet but the intellectual capital standing upon it. We have leveraged the precision engineering of our people's progress in heavy industry to pioneer a people-centric and performance-driven operating management system, optimising our top-tier talent to deliver first-class results. We are moving beyond the exportation of commodities towards the exportation of excellence. We believe this is the natural evolution of our heritage. We are channelling a 200-year history of punching above our weight through innovation and discipline to deliver a standard of service that is, and has always been, unmatched.
