Senior Collections Associate

Full-Time
Role Overview

Own the hardest-to-collect balances, and lead the negotiations that bring them home.

Senior Collections Associates handle significant disputes and aged debt that others escalate. You'll set escalation strategy for your portfolio and manage the formal recovery path. You'll also approve write-offs and non-standard arrangements within your delegated limits, and supervise and mentor Associates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead negotiation and settlement of significant disputes and non-standard payment arrangements within delegated authority
  • Own the aged debt position for your portfolio: escalation strategy, write-off recommendations and provisioning input
  • Manage the formal recovery path, including demand letters and breach notifications, to client policy
  • Work with legal, commercial, customer setup and cash application teams to clear the barriers behind aged and disputed balances
  • Act as the client's escalation point on collections process questions, and support month-end close and audit with clear, defensible explanations
  • Review and approve Junior Associates' and Associates' work, analyse error trends and fix root causes
  • Write and maintain SOPs, own workflow rules and tolerances, and deliver process improvement and automation
  • Supervise and mentor Junior Associates and Associates, contribute to their reviews, and deputise for the Team Lead
What You'll Bring

What you'll bring

  • 5+ years in collections, accounts receivable or general accounting, including ownership of complex exceptions, reconciliations and disputes
  • Sound grasp of provisions, write-offs and recoveries and the control environment you operate within
  • Direct experience supporting clients through month-end close and external audit
  • Strong ERP skills (SAP, Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics or Sage), including reporting and query tools, plus advanced Excel
  • Experience mentoring or reviewing others' work
  • No degree required: we look for depth of experience and sound judgement on complex work

Nice to have

Experience in a shared-service, outsourced or multi-client environment. Exposure to US GAAP as it applies to receivables, including ASC 326 (CECL) expected credit losses. ACCA (advanced or qualified), a bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA or CMA. Reconciliation, data analysis or automation tooling skills.

You'll thrive here if…

You get to the root cause rather than a workaround, stay calm under client pressure, and raise the standard of the people around you.
